The Precedent

This line has been drawn before.

Git is free. GitHub charges the org. Same line — drawn for machine accountability.

git — free GitHub — paid

Version control for humans. The tool costs nothing and runs anywhere. Organizations pay for the place where teams coordinate.

protocol — free RailHub — paid

Accountability for machines. Airlocks and signed receipts cost nothing and run on your box. Organizations pay for the place where receipts coordinate.

FAQ

Honest answers.

Q1Is it really free?

Yes. $0, forever. No trial clock, no usage meter, no feature wall on the protocol. It runs local, machine-to-machine, and you never need our servers to use it. Free is the product strategy, not a promotion.

Q2Do you count seats?

Never. Not on the protocol, and not on RailHub either — RailHub is priced per org with unlimited users. Adding a teammate or a machine never costs you anything, anywhere in RailCall.

Q3What do you charge for?

Three things. RailHub — org-wide auditability, the company kill switch, evidence packs, attestation, shared policy and ledger, priced per org. The marketplace — 5% seller fee plus 10% buyer assurance when a module sells. Premium protocol upgrades, à la carte. Everything else is free.

Q4Is it open source?

It's an open protocol. The receipt format is open, offline verification is free forever, and the MCP interface is open — 33 tools you can build against today. The protocol is free to run, customize, and build on. Anyone can verify a RailCall receipt without asking us.

Q5How do publishers get paid?

You publish free, set your price, and keep 95% of every sale. We take 5% from the seller; buyers pay a 10% assurance fee on top. Payouts go to you — 32 modules are live from roughly 20 publishers today.
